BACKGROUND & GOALS

The sport of golf and golfers in general, has been slow in adopting social media as an engagement tool with fans of the sport. 10-time PGA Tour Champion, Steve Elkington, is on the forefront of bringing great stories and videos to the golf community through his site, SecretInTheDirt.com.

Looking for new ways to utilize his brand presence as well as a way to engage the golfing community, Steve Elkington and Secret in the Dirt tasked GAGA Sports & Entertainment to build and launch a promotion that would be impactful, unique, and able to attract a wide-range of media interest including a potential sponsor.

DETAILS

Given the requirements of Steve and the Secret in the Dirt team, GAGA Sports launch the Caddie for Steve Elkington Contest. A unique opportunity, the winner of the contest would caddie for Elk during his Pro-Am round on October 5, 2011 at the Frys.com Open in San Martin, CA.

Right from the start, the contest generated nearly 1,000 entrants, with nearly 600 entrants via the GAGA Influencer Tool™. Further, GAGA Sports was able to bring on Audi as an official sponsor for the contest who would later receive a list of qualified leads from the contest entrants.

The Caddie for Steve Elkington contest also received national media attention as it was picked up by media outlets such as Fox Sports and MarketWatch as well as the Frys.com Open and fellow golfers.

ACTIVATION

The contest was promoted on the Secret in the Dirt website, Facebook and Twitter page as well as an email newsletter to the Secrete In The Dirt community. Additionally,  the contest was promoted by Steve Elkington himself on his personal Twitter account.
